Some Awesome Stuff, Then Some Other Stuff

Sorry about the late post. I swear, it's not you - it's me.

Last Kiss 11/23/09

Here is your first awesome thing in today's post, presuming you appreciate boobs (everyone should).

Bliss 11/23/09

That bird looks.... delicious. Unbeknownst to most people turkeys actually are one of the top five ugliest creatures currently in existence. If not for their tastiness they would have been wiped from the planet much like the ugly ass dodo and people who had mullets in the 80s.

Non Sequitur 11/23/09

A contest? Go forth DCR devotees and scare the world with your inappropriate suggestions!

Brainwaves 11/23/09

We had an awesome bird two comics back, so here we have 2 birds that are so fat there is no way they could achieve take-off. I'm not size-ist or nothin, but that lady-bird friend of yours might have left for some other reason than the song thing. Just saying.

Birdbrains 11/23/09

GOOD GOD THAT IS HORRIFYING!

Cul De Sac 11/23/09

And now you feel like you're hallucinating. I think my work today is done.

Are You Banner Sized?

Monday is funday. As long as you have some good hallucinogenics. I don't have any, do you?

Chuckle Bros 10/12/09

A visual pun that doesn't suck. Although it does poop.

La Cucaracha 10/12/09
la cucaracha
That was way too obvious , but sometimes you just can't help it.

What boardgame are they making into a movie?

Eek! 10/12/09
eek!
A question: Why?

Also, does this imply that Dr. Banner has a small penis? Or is Hulk upset because it isn't proportional anymore? Or have I simply thought about this too much and it's just a dick joke?

Home & Away 10/12/09
home & away
This guy is such a pussy. He might be the most whipped husband I've ever seen, even in popular culture.

Also, why is he complaining? And why won't the wife get the oil changed? It's not like it takes any skill to drive somewhere and pay other people to do work. Maybe she's just a bitch.

Brainwaves 10/12/09

I'm not sure what the joke is. That food is fattening?

Also, I'm pretty sure it's hard to find fattening vegan food since most fat is found in meats.

It is now Tuesday. With that knowledge we can assume that xy is bringing you humour and that he will do so tomorrow as well.

Dog Eat Doug 8/18/09

Awesome. My only question is how does the baby know what devoured means? If the baby knows that, then surely it can know that the dog is lying.

Clearly someone has never watched CNN recently. They are constantly bombarding you with Twitter this and Facebook that. It's really annoying. We watch so you can tell us the news not so we can tell you the news.

Cathy 8/18/09
cathy
Cathy obviously doesn't watch TV or she would know that gray is not hot. They even have a commercial about it. The old man is in a bar with his gray beard and gets shot down by a 40 year old hottie(?). Then Walt Frazier gives him Just For Men and his beard is turned jet black. Now he can score any hottie he wants. Stupid Cathy.

Back with a FUNgeance

It's my turn again, and I'm back with a FUNgeance! It's like a vengeance, only fun. You know what else is fun? The Meekrat Entertainment Group. Now that my clumsy self-promotion is out of the way, let's mildly poke fun at comic strips. And, in some cases, endlessly nit-pick! FUNgeance indeed!

Annie, 7/23/09
Photobucket
I just wanted to say that "Little Orphan Annie" continues to be a far stranger comic strip than I ever imagined. I wish they'd put some of this weirdness in the musical rather than have her running around singing about tomorrow and whatnot. That would be a pretty neat musical.

Brainwaves, 7/23/09
Photobucket
The reason is that he was a prince and she was forced to do manual labor for her wicked stepmother, which did not involve her leaving the house or, really, anything that would allow her to meet the prince beforehand. Also, maybe he was inbred.

Eek, 7/23/09
Photobucket
That woman has no social graces at all. If you're dining with a potato, you don't order potato-based meals. I bet if she was having lunch with a cow or dinner with a chicken, she'd order veal and eggs, because she probably also likes eating the young of all species. Including human babies.

Maintaining, 7/23/09
Photobucket
Apparently, this strip's days are numbered. While I'm sorry that the cartoonist will be out of a job, I'm not that sorry because this strip annoys the heck out of me. Still, hope he finds work elsewhere. Also, this strip annoys me far less than "Mallard Fillmore", "Prickly City", and "The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee", and the art in this one is far better than all of those (except, arguably, "Edison Lee") so why do those get to stay while this one bites the dust? The comics page... it's totally unfair. There is another strip I hate far worse than all of those, which I refuse to even say the name of. Oh god, it is a terrible terrible strip. So, yeah, good luck with your future endeavors, Nate Creekmore. Your strip annoyed me, but it certainly didn't deserve to die.

Scary Gary, 7/23/09
Photobucket
So they're insinuating (or flat-out telling us) that Frankenstein's Monster is a homosexual? He has a bride, you know... though this could allow for a modern re-imagining of the character where he's shunned both for his monstrous appearance and sexual preference, most likely in a overtly religious town. This would also add subtext to the flaming windmill imagery.

Shoe, 7/23/09
Photobucket
Yeah, let's use a decades-old TV show as a punchline. I realize that they had that movie a year or so ago, but still... just because something was culturally relevant once doesn't mean it still is.

And Then The Letdown

Yesterday I really felt like I was on top of my game when it came to comic reviewing skills. A great selection to choose from, lots of creativity, and plenty of free time. Today felt completely opposite. But you know what? Nobody comments anyways so it's possible people didn't even like yesterday and today will be a huge hit. I can't deal with you people! ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?

That has to be the..... coolest crocodile I have ever seen! Those awesome shades and his custom t-shirt, the whole standing upright thing; if I could be any animal, he would be the one - specifically.

I'm sure Jill isn't the only one who's fanasized about her having a clone. RAWR! ::wink wink:: You see I'm joking about her husband wanting to have 3-way sex with her and a clone of herself.

Todd the Dinosaur

Todd the Dinosaur 3/4/09
God what sort of sick sexual act is "beanie weanie night" where Todd has to stay outside for 3 hours while Trent performs all sorts of degrading rituals on Susie? I don't even want to look it up on urban dictionary, GROSS.

The Daily Comics Review for 2009 and Beyond

Let us hope this is not a portent of things to come. I scoured the funny pages for comics to make fun of for two days, and this was all I could find! Hopefully 2009 will have a few more bad comic strips so you all wont be left bored and I wont be left with a dead blog.

With the new year, we would like to petition some feedback from our readers. Is there anything you would like to see us add to the DCR? Were there any gimmicks or particular styles of articles that you really liked or hated? The only way we know how to give you more of what you want is if YOU TELL US!

Brainwaves 1/3/09

Instead of all the other lists and ideas people come up with for New Years, all we really need is a little more violence. Punch some one today, and let them know you hate them. It might just make their day.

If Only the Daily Comics Review Didn't Suck

If only I had the time, this post would have been much sooner. I'm feeling particularly sassy and critical about lazy cartoonists today!

Soup to Nutz 12/4/08
Soup to Nutz 12/4/08
If only diarrhea jokes translated to print media as well as they do on TV shows. Is there really a book called "Fun with Dick"? Take a sharpie, add a S, and you can no longer carry that book in a school library.

If only they made novelty car horns that sounded like gun shots, I might actually buy one.

If only more cartoonists would focus on the jokes instead of the art, the comics page would be a much funnier place.

Arlo & Janis 12/4/08

If only Family Guy didn't suck, this cartoon strip referencing a cartoon show might be good.

Sam & Silo 12/4/08

If only there was an extra line, it wouldn't look like Floyd has been wearing his hat for so long it has melded with his flesh. Meh, maybe it's just a birth defect.

Family Circus 12/4/08
Family Circus 12/4/08
If only Billy was a teenager. "L0L N00b, never heard of wikipedia?" Obviously in the Keane world, you still go to these hundreds of pound of outdated books for your information about the world. Tomorrow maybe we'll have a joke about the USSR.

Beetle Bailey 12/4/08

Grandma Esther Reads the Comics 9/16/08

I'd like to introduce everyone to my fictional, stereotypical great grandmother Esther! She has been living in the home as long as I can remember but we bring her over whenever we do family stuff. She hates my blog and wanted to have her own say on "those interwebs". If anybody enjoys this at all we'll probably make it a regular thing. Let the madness begin.

Family Circus 9/16/08
The Family Circus 9/16/08
Well hello all you nice internet people! I thought I would introduce myself with my favorite comic strip and favorite comic character at the same time. Dolly is such a spirited and lovely young girl, she reminds me of myself when I was that age. Now back in that day we would wake up with the rooster at sunrise to go out and milk the cow. Bessy was a sweet one and my sister Eileen and I took turns on the stool. You see my Grandfather built our barn for goats so the stalls were real small so only one of us could milk at a time. Now my grandfather was the son of a revolutionary war vet'ran and he ::Grandma Esther can we wrap this up please?:: oh quit hootin' and hollerin', as I was sayin' I love me some Dolly and you should too.

Slylock Fox 9/16/08
Slylock Fox 9/16/08
What is this Bryce are you sendin' me some prankster cartoons? There's too much goin' on here, you said this was Slylock? He's a nice man, real respectable like and always takin care of his elders. What does he have to do with these filthy cretins? Damn kids with their long hair now-a-days you can't tell the the hes from the shes no more. It all comes back to them parents I say, can't even get they kids to clean up theys rooms.

The Duplex 9/16/08
The Duplex 9/16/08
They played that Sex and the City show one time on that there Oxygen channel at the home. It was almost like I could see society disitigratin in front my eyes. I don't reckon you'd call em proper ladies, the way they'd be walkin round the town with their vaginas hangin out and not cookin and takin care of the home like they shoulda. Where'd them small town values go?

Brainwaves 9/16/08
Brainwaves 9/16/08
Oh applesauce! The carnival is for fun, not some horror side-show cartoony joke. If you can't even draw good why even try?

Mark Trail 9/16/08
Mark Trail 9/16/08
Such a nice young man has ne'er graced the comics page as Mr. Mark Trail. Reminds me of the love of my life Lamar, god rest his soul. You can tell his wife treats him right I'll tell ya. Nice pressed shirts and pants, healthy build and thick full head of hair. Thank god for the true good things in life that never change.

Wee Pals 9/16/08
Wee Pals 9/16/08
Now I'm all for integration, and Bryce told me things is different now, but don't yous think it's a mite queer to have an asian and a black talkin about how the past was better? I mean ::Alright Grandma Esther it's time to get you back to the home. Say so long to everybody:: bye bye!

Bryce Explains Comics and Lazyness

So yesterday I actually spent all day at work..... working. After work it was 175 degrees out, thus making the loft where my computer is located unbearable hot. So that is why there was no Thursday Haiku Review. I promise next week's post will be twice as good but with the same number of syllables. Now that I've explained myself I have some awesome news to share with all the DCR fans out there! Brian Hall, author extraordinaire, fellow comics critic and owner of Losers Are Made Not Born, will be joining the staff of the Daily Comics Review! Brian will take over comic reviews for Saturdays and possible more duties in the future, so tune in tomorrow and leave him a comment if you like what he has to say! We're very excited to have him on staff!
