Recalculating....

What a beautiful day...at least in my neck of the woods.  Which mean tomorrow it will snow.  We'll lead off this entry with today's Garfield which will segue into some shameless self-promotion.

Garfield
Garfield
I don't know what made Jon think he is handy around the house.  But at least we know Garfield has a Facebook page.  You know who else has a FB page?  Meekrat, Dog Spelled Forward, The Bird Feeder, Stupid Inventor and the DCR itself.  For some reason, I used to have one then got rid of it.  Maybe I will bring it back someday.  We all also have Twitter however @theDCR hasn't been updated since July 27, 2010.

Todd the Dinosaur
Todd the Dinosaur
Instead of making a joke about eating dolphins and pandas, I would contact the grocery store manager who would kindly ask these two douchebags to get off his property.  I mean, it is clear that they approaching people in the parking lot.  Then I would mention dolphins and pandas.

Crock
Crock
Yeah.  Okay.  I guess this is kind of topical...

Bizarro
Bizarro
I love the Mayhem commercials from All State.  That's really all I have to say about this panel.

Hi and Lois
Hi and Lois
Along with it being the vernal equinox, tonight is also when the Devil visits Stull Cemetery.  I notice Hi doesn't mention that.

Wee Pals
Wee Pals
The kids in Wee Pals are way too touchy about everyday phrases.  Even the handicapped/disabled girl in the chair seems very upset and offended that that boy is using the phrase "handicap" correctly!!

Family Circus
Family Circus
Great.  Those dogs are eating chocolate.  Now they are going to die.

New Adventures of Queen Victoria
New Adventures of Queen Victoria
Using the formula of comic book characters can use powers while the Archie and Newspaper side use popularity, my Final Four is Green Lantern, The Hulk, Jughead and, reluctantly, Calvin with Hulk and Calvin being the champions (based on popularity).  Who would win the championship...I'd go with Calvin.  What would your Final Four and such be?  Let us know in the comments.

Ziggy
Ziggy
Does Ziggy now live in a dystopian future that looks eerily like three weeks from now?

Wait.  On the bracket, are the Wee Folks the same as Wee Pals?

A quick search reveals 'Yes.  Yes it is.'

Happy New Year! Also, chocolate fish and cauliflower brains.

My New Year's resolution is to actually write on this blog.  I really hope I can do it.  I mean, I did volunteer to do it, after all.  There's no reason for me to slack off.  So, I can start the new year with a post here.  Without further ado:

Arctic Circle:

I tried to find some strips that didn't have anything to do with the new year.  Thankfully, one of them had to do with chocolate fish, which happen to be my favorite kind of fish.  Of course, I don't like real fish, but that's beside the point.  I would gladly trade any real fish I happen to find for these penguins' fake chocolate fish.  If anyone knows of a way to contact them, please tell me.

Frank and Ernest:

This one didn't have anything to do with the new year either, so I picked it.  It's unfortunate, however, that they don't realize that putting a cauliflower into his head won't work.  His brain is made of mashed potatoes, as is his heart.  His intestines are, of course, made of butter and cheese.

Mutts:

You know they've been standing out there all night, taking turns holding the sign.  They waited longer than most people even, all the way until the sun came up.  Now, they can finally go home.  The bird will just have to go up a branch.  That's his front porch he's standing on, probably.

Family Circus:

And, to end off, the same tired old New Year's joke that Bil Keane does every year.  I know I've seen it on many other comic strips, too.  Yes, this "new" joke looks just like the OLD joke!

As I was going through the comics today, I noticed FoxTrot was a little different. First of all, it was in Spanish so I couldn't understand it but I powered through it thinking there was going to be a great joke at the end...
FoxTrot (Spanish)
But there wasn't so I went to foxtrot.com and saw that GoComics sent the email with the Spanish version. They also did this with Stone Soup but I didn't look at the English version of that.

Lockhorns 12/5/10
Lockhorns
I don't know what happened to Loretta in the first panel but it's good to know a case of amnesia isn't clouding her hatred of Leroy.

It's good that Leroy beat her so hard that she forgot what happened so now she won't be able to press charges against him.

Close to Home 12/5/10
Close to Home
I don't get this. What's going on?

Wee Pals 12/5/10
Wee Pals
I hate Wee Pals.

Bizarro 12/5/10
Bizarro
Won't somebody think of the children!?!

Hey, let's go see what going on over in Heathcliff
Heathcliff
OH, DEAR GOD!! WHAT IS GOING ON?! BURN IT! SEND IT TO HELL!!

Ink Pen 12/5/10
Ink Pen
P.J. got tall. And speaking of Family Circus...

Family Circus
I love all the looks on the kids' faces. It looks like they are all doing it for retribution and revenge. "How dare you drool on my pillow" (Mar), "How dare you be born therefore becoming the youngest." (Apr), "How dare Daddy spend more time in the garden than with me." (May), "I'm sick of brown dogs, white is better!" (July), "Qing Dynasty vases pale in comparison to Ming." (Oct), "This ponytail does not pass muster." (Nov)

Birdbrains 12/5/10
Birdbrains
Ha! Bailout jokes are just as topical now as they were back in 2008.

Mary Worth 12/5/10
Mary Worth
Who else reading Mary Worth is tired of Jill badmouthing marriage? Look, Jill, just because your marriage failed and you soften the pain with meaningless sex and booze doesn't mean everybody's marriage will fail. Have you ever thought that maybe your marriage failed because you are a bitch? No? Well, I suggest you think about that.

Born Loser 12/5/10
Born Loser
And Brutus is the master nitwit. Oh, yeah. I went there.

So my site will be pretty dead for the rest of the year.  There will probably only be about four more posts over the next two months.  I'm hoping when January gets here I will be able to do more posting and bring my site back to its former glory.  February at the latest.  Anyway, comics!!

I was pointed in the direction of stickcat.net thanks to Reddit where this comic caught my attention:
StickCat 1
Ha!  The old guy from Up is depressed and lonely.  This strip actually wasn't printing in the UConn paper because it was National Suicide Prevention Week which means showing a comic where someone commits suicide could be considered bad taste.  Unlike publishing a comic on Veterans Day that refers to National Stupid Day.

Also, boobies:
StickCat 2

Ink Pen 11/14/10
Ink Pen
I just wanted to bring up this comic because of how similar it is to the DC-Marvel publishing effort of Amalgam Comics.  The orgin story presented here is a mash-up of Green Lantern and Iron Man to create SteelWill.  DC and Marvel actually created a mash-up of Green Lantern and Iron Man to create Iron Lantern.

Panel from Cornered 11/14/10
Cornered
Is it me or does the image if a suit doing work at a computer seem really funny?

Argyle Sweater 11/14/10
Argyle Sweater
Is it me or is the 1st Place trophy for Hide and Seek a clever touch?

Momma 11/14/10
Momma
I don't know who to blame more?  Momma for being a nagging and horrid example of a mother by both wanting to keep her children children and for wanting them to productive adults; or her children for both wanting to be still be mothered but also wanting their adulthood.  They are just an awful family all around.

Panels from Shoe 11/14/10
Shoe
I think what Cosmo meant to ask was "Do you ever get tired of golf-themed comic strips?"  And the answer would be "Yes, very much so."

Heathcliff 11/14/10
Heathcliff
This is the best Heathcliff I have seen in years and all it took was referencing a comic strip a hundred times better than it.

Born Loser 11/14/10
Born Loser
Was Brutus really expecting some kind of mind-reading power from Wilberforce?  Brutus has met his son right?  He's not exactly the brightest bulb in the box.

And now what we all came here to see:
HARDCORE NUDITY!!

Today is my one year wedding anniversary.  So here are comics for you.

First, I quick mention of two comics who have some special guest stars.
Liberty Meadows and Ink Pen 10/24/10
Liberty Meadows
Ink Pen
If I were Cindy Bear I would have a drinking problem too.  I mean they are making a CGI movie of Yogi Bear with Dan Akroyd as the voice of Yogi.  Dan Akroyd!  Oh, well.  I will just let you be the judge of it.

My Cage 10/24/10
My Cage
I guess it's okay for My Cage to go sappy the week before it comes to an end.  I know how it is to go back to a place you hated to work because you do it for your family.  It sucks.  I hate it.  Luckily, there's alcohol to help get me through it.

Hi & Lois 10/24/10
Hi & Lois
Look how dark and depressing today's Hi & Lois is.  I know the Flagston's marriage is a suburban nightmare but their depression is attaching itself to casual passers-by as Hi's awful karaoke skills echo in their ears like a death march.

Brewster Rockit:  Space Guy! 10/24/10
Brewster Rockit
Offered without commentary.

Argyle Sweater 10/24/10
Argyle Sweater
Don't worry Mr. Kidney, someone else will want you.  But usually, kidneys are rejected while in the body so does Mr. Spognola's body have its own little universe inside of it?

Family Circus 10/24/10
Family Circus
But Papa Keane spends every night crouched behind the shrubbery........

Born Loser 10/24/10
Born Loser
Maybe...if that was a real thing.

So comics distributed by King Features Syndicate colored a majority of their strips pink today to make people more aware about breast cancer.  If you haven't donated to one of the many breast cancer charities out there then you should probably get around to doing that.  Anyway, here are the comics.

Mutts 10/10/10
Mutts
Mutts was one of the few strips that brought attention to it being pink.  Like always, Mutts made my eyes roll in their "this strip has so much potential" way.  The few strips to actually mention the pink-ness I didn't really like.  At least My Cage got it right.

My Cage 10/10/10
My Cage
See?

Todd the Dinosaur 10/10/10
Todd the Dinosaur
This one made me laugh out loud.  I love how cat and dog food are the foods of choice when someone is poor and can't afford to buy something to eat.  Cat food and dog food are kind of expensive.  You can get a dozen eggs for about dollar or so less than a can of pet food.

The Family Circus 10/10/10
Family Circus
Our last pink comic of the day forces you to think of Thel Keane getting a mammogram.  Go on.  Embroider it on the back of your eyelids.

Dick Tracy 10/10/10
Dick Tracy
I fantasize a lot about how Dick Tracy will die.  Usually, it's an inside job and Internal Affair refuses to investigate but I never thought 'murdered by hobos' would be part of the equation.

Adam @ Home 10/10/10
Adam @ Home
My mom made the exact same joke earlier.  Is my mom really the cartoonist for Adam @ Home?  It would make sense except I'm pretty sure she knows pay phones are now 50 cents and are rare.

Ziggy 10/10/10
Ziggy
Why would opportunity knock in the middle of the night.  This is one of the most depressing Ziggys in a long time.

So Ziggy wears pajama pants but not real pants?

Born Loser 10/10/10
Born Loser
I would imagine tea cozy sales would go down during a recession and a bad economy.  I just don't see how being nice will get people to buy more tea cozies though.
