Shoddy

Sorry for missing yesterday. Today's not much better, honestly. Check out the Meekrat Entertainment Group, though.

Spider-Man (Thursday and Friday)
Photobucket
Photobucket
I really think Aunt May should go for it. If anything, to shake up Mary Jane's worldview. She's surprisingly square for an actress-model-whatever.

Sally Forth (Thursday and Friday)
Photobucket
Photobucket
Likewise, Ted Forth is shaking up the status quo my sticking it to his mother-in-law. I was just going to put Thursday's comic up here, because my god, but that's brutal, but Friday's comic deserves to be up here too. I can't help but feel that, short-term, this can't go well for poor Ted, though.

Thursday
F Minus
Photobucket
Depending on how far that guy is going, and how fast the basket can go, he might want to put up with the show tunes. Around here, the bus is something like $3 for a one-way ride.

Soup to Nutz
Photobucket
I'm just baffled by the framed pictures of Davey and Goliath, honestly.

Friday
Andy Capp
Photobucket
This seems way too romantic and industrious for Andy Capp. I guess he was younger then, though.

Girls and Sports
Photobucket
Let's check in with this old favorite. Is it? Yes, it's still stupid and terrible!

Love Is
Photobucket
You can add this to the "Passive-Aggressive Love Is" strips.

Pajama Diaries
Photobucket
On most days, Pajama Diaries is a pretty good comic strip, with fairly strong characterization giving way to character-based humor and other well-done gag-a-day type jokes. This new guy just seems way too one-note for this strip, really.

Sunday Snap

Hey, have you heard the news of Nickelodeon producing a live-action Fairly Odd-Parents movie? It's going to star Drake Bell from Drake & Josh so while his cohort Josh Peck is doing decent movies like The Wackness, Mean Creek and Red Dawn, Drake Bell is playing a 23-year-old Timmy Turner, pink hat and all. I guess Drake does have a music career to fall back on...

Anyway, onto the Sunday comics.

Brevity 7/25/10

As someone who loves traffic signs and anything road related, I was quite happy to see the winding road sign as the bartender.

Crock 7/25/10
Crock
I want to know why they are singing the Star-Spangled Banner when "Crock" is set in the French Foreign Legion.

Mary Worth 7/25/10
Mary Worth
The people who do Mary Worth do realize that people can grow up just fine without fathers. Right?

B.C. 7/25/10

Oh, snap, BP! You just got B.C.'d!!

Popeye 7/25/10

"Well, due to all the rough anal sex I engage in, I do have severe rectal trauma but I think I can manage."

The Pajama Diaries 7/25/10

Hey, you want to know a good way to have nobody read your comic strip? Put in a lot of words and turn the comic sideways.

Pearls Before Swine 7/25/10

Oh, snap, BP! You just got Pearls Before Swine'd!!

The Born Loser 7/25/10
The Born Loser
Why do people in comic strips (and by "people" I mean Brutus) continue doing stuff they are not good at? I'm not good at algebra so I quit doing it, why can't Brutus do the same thing?

Dogs Can't Get Ph.Ds

Welcome to another Sunday post. But first some self-promotion: I am looking for people to contribute just about whatever they want to my crappy blog the Random Wikipedia Article. What started as a blog about random Wikipedia articles has become boring and kind of pointless. If you would like to contribute then send me an email (which can be obtained through the "About" link on Watch This Space).

Funky Winkerbean 1/31/10

Today's Funky Winkerbean reminds me of when I was younger and my co-hometown had an overpass for an old railroad track that went across a highway that was spraypainted on all the time. Eventually it was torn down and I kind of miss it.

I thought that the overpass in this strip was for a railroad because it doesn't look like a road because you'd be able to see, well a road! The overpass in the background looks like a street overpass.

Beetle Bailey 1/31/10

How did this comic segue from complaining about having a hangover into Sarge not wanting to get married?

Ask Shagg 1/31/10

Really? Someone actually asked that question? Did they intend the question to be a serious or a joke? I sincerely hope it was a joke question because this kid's full name and location is printed here and any kid over the age of 4 should know the color of the cow doesn't change the milk.

The Pajama Diaries 1/31/10

Why do people use GPS when they know where they're going? I'm not going to use GPS to go to one of the Walmarts located within my town.

Cul De Sac 1/31/10

I've seen birds in stores before. Birds in Walmart, birds in Target, birds in the grocery store but I'm pretty sure the store doesn't just the birds stay in there because that's kind of...disgusting.

Ziggy 1/31/10

Thanks, Ziggy. Now when I put a piece of bread in the toaster I'm going to think I'm raping or molesting it.

Birds and the Bees, Bad Karma, Ignorance, Grimace, and Freakish Walking Armless Torsos

Ready to start off your weekend right with a healthy dose of the Daily Comics Review? No? Too bad, because it's go-time. If this is too intense for you, then maybe you should go check out the brand-new web-comic Time-Mind Sync-Warp or the even brand-newer web-comic Carafe. I have to warn you, though: Carafe will rock your socks clean off. Now then, on with the whatever it is I'm here to do!

Daddy's Home and The Pajama Diaries, 01/15/10

I just like it when two strips have the exact same premise on the same day. Pajama Diaries has been doing this all week, though. As for Daddy's Home, there is an app for that. It's called pornography.

Funky Winkerbean, 01/15/10

Once again, I don't know where they're getting this whole vibe that Montoni's is untouchable. I mean, let's look at all the stuff that's happened to Funky and his immediate family:
-Alcoholism
-First wife divorced him due to alcoholism
-Nephew got into a car crash, nephew's girlfriend lost her arm
-Nephew joined the army and was a prisoner of war on two separate occasions
-Unseemly weight gain
-Funky's son is a little punk
Not to mention the fact that Montoni's itself nearly burned down years ago. In fact, only Pete and Crazy Harry seem to be somewhat untouched by ill tidings. Which means we can expect one or both of them to have life kick them in the teeth very soon.

Hi and Lois, 01/15/10

While Chip is hardly a man about town, we've seen him with girls plenty of times. Does Ditto not remember this? Also, what's with them drawing Chip's eyes? He's supposed to be like his uncle, Beetle Bailey, with his hair covering his eyes and whatnot. Or perhaps Ditto is just surprised that Chip likes the ladies? Who knows, or cares, really.

Housebroken, 01/15/10

That's not the freaking Grimace. Grimace is a giant pear-shaped purple monstrosity. That thing is more like a mobile potato.

Ctrl+Alt+Delete Sillies, 01/15/10

I know I don't normally comment on web-comics (even though I read about thirty of them daily with varying amounts of pain/enjoyment. Ctrl+Alt+Delete is more on the pain end of the spectrum, its little side-project up there a bit less so) but I'm pretty sure this is the first time we've seen the bottom half of these character designs, and my god, seeing these armless torsos walking around is about the creepiest thing I've seen in a fortnight.

500th Post Pseudo-Spectacular!

According to Blogger, this is the five hundredth Daily Comics Review post! To celebrate, I decided to go back and take a look at the very first DCR post and comment on the comics presented there. Except, you know, these are the new ones.

Alley Oop, 11/20/09

Since the first post, Alley Oop went through several months of having one panel a day, accompanied by dinosaur fan art sent in by little kids. Dinosaurs are really the only reason to read this strip, but considering the odd specimen we're given in the first panel (what is that thing? Did a stegosaurus and an aptosaurus have a kid or something?) they can find better dinosaurs elsewhere. Also, since I don't follow this strip, I have no idea if Ooola is happy to be marrying Alley or not, but all things considered (neither party seems too into the marriage idea) shenanigans will ensue. This will not make me follow the strip at all.

Beetle Bailey, 11/20/09

If Beetle put as much effort into working as he does into avoiding work, he'd probably have a lot more free time. I do feel a little sorry for Killer, since it seems like Sarge has just given him a bunch of metal garbage to put together somehow. Oh, and if Beetle is truly into relaxation as much as he claims, why is he wearing shoes on his bed? Those are the first things I'd take off.

Ben, 11/20/09

There's more than two radio stations, old guy. I should not anger you, however, since the way you pushed that button insinuates that you telekinetic powers.

Big Nate, 11/20/09

That kid is stupid at basketball.

Crock, 11/20/09

Are these two panels from different days, or does Crock need tailgate food for the memorial service? Maybe Crock is going to a football game with the guy in panel one and, since he doesn't know if he'll be back, he doesn't want to get all ready for a tailgate party and wind up having to do it alone? I don't know. Crock is stupid at comics.

Lio, 11/20/09

Aw... how sweet. I wonder who the voodoo doll was going to be used against, though. Also, since he's hugging it, is that person now feeling themselves being hugged? We will never know these answers.

The Pajama Diaries, 11/20/09

Okay, this is in my local paper, so I know that Nanci woman is supposed to be an African-American. Why is she just tan right there? Also, why are that woman's lips black? Did she become a goth between half-panels or something?

Pardon My Planet, 11/20/09

I'd be more worried about the fact that the backs of your hands are inexplicably hairy than dreaming that you're a ladybug. Besides, ladybugs get to go to ladybug picnics and their children die in horrible fires. Uh... I guess that second one isn't so much of a plus unless you really dislike children.

Spider-Man, 11/20/09

...what? I have to talk about this twice today? I'll go into character stuff on the MEG, but here, I'll just mention how much I like Spider-Man's conversational tone in talking to Bigshot. Oh, and in the third panel, it looks like Bigshot is about to kiss Sandman. In fact, you could take that panel wildly out of context and have the first two panels be something completely off-the-wall and it'd make just as much sense. Examples:

In fact, I'd say that last use of the panel makes "Edison Lee" a lot better.

State of the Union, 11/20/09

To quote GIR from "Invader ZIM": Why is his head so big? WHY IS HIS HEAD SO BIG?

There's like a billion quotes about big heads from that show, but that is the one that popped into my (normal-sized) head. And here's to at least another 500 posts for the DCR!

Eyes are the Window to Your Soul

There is nothing quite like over-evaluating a meager 2 strips because they were the worst you could find for the day. Enjoy, as much time is wasted on things that really are not worth all the analysis.

The Pajama Diaries
3/13/09

There sure is a lot to say here. These people have the biggest headboard on a bed I have ever seen. The Wife Libido-Meter is an excellent idea, but wouldn't mounting that on your bed cause your kids to ask all sorts of questions you don't want to answer? They wont ever make one of these for husbands. One little sliver would say "no" and the rest of the sections would just be various versions of "OH GOD YEAH".

Mary Worth

Can't follow dialog, coloration too distracting. Neckerchief McHighBangs has one white pupil and one brown pupil. It's not like the colors run anywhere else on the strip. The curtain colors don't bleed on to the window or vice-versa, but when it comes to color the eyes it's like the artist replaced his fine tip brush with his thumb. Mary Worth - the only strip that gets worse when you add color.

What the Hell is Wrong with People?

So today I was looking at my traffic tracker for the website and someone found their way here by searching for "bryce+baker the douche". I have no idea why someone was searching for that particular combination of words, but I suddenly feel much more self conscious.

The Pajama Diaries 3/11/09
Pajama Diaries 3/11/09
So I had a conversation with my wife earlier this week where she pointed out that I often play dumb when talking about comics and how that isn't really very funny. For an example we can use this comic right here. My joke was going to be "God I'd hate to be her kids on Friday. Money tastes like crap and I always choke on nickles and dimes." I don't really think she is going to feed her kids the money, the gimmick is that the actual joke is obvious and bad. Thus I intentionally misinterpret the punchline and make a new joke out of my misunderstanding. I saw this today and was reminded of the past conversation and I decided to put it up to my readers. There is a new poll posted where you can vote on if you enjoy my misunderstanding jokes. If enough people say they don't like them then I wont do them any more!

Cul de Sac 3/11/09

Leave it to Dill to put a positive spin on these tough economic times we're going through.

Check out this guy in the ass-less taco suit! It's not that his ass is exposed, it is that the taco has no bottom. God, who would want a lettuce and tomato taco? I don't let anybody get away with lazy drawing or humor! I am the comic strip sheriff!

Off the Mark 3/11/09

Most people don't pee in short, quick bursts, which is the way people throw darts. If you wanted to throw darts like most people pee, you'd probably have to start from a lot farther away and just run at the board with a big spear until you ran in to it.

The Doozies 3/11/09

That's no egg. That bird left them a giant oval shit. Gross! I mean they did call the bird a "he" and male birds don't lay eggs. BIOLOGY 101 BITCHES.

Yenny 3/11/09
Yenny 3/11/09
Is this what prisons are like in Puerto Rico? I'm usually a huge fan of Yenny - mostly because of the flesh buffet on display, but when you draw the prison bars 4 feet apart I've got to say something.
