Monday Free for All......

Matt back after a week in New Orleans where I can barely remember some of what happened (but am sure that my bank and credit card company will be very happy to remind me). Anyways, on with the Monday comics:

Six Chix
Six Chix - 01/23/2012

Wait, so the waitress is also the dishwasher at this place? And why is the woman at the table just staring at the cover of a book and reading it out loud? And why does the waitress equate success with winning a non-existent Nobel prize? And why am I over-analyzing this comic? Next....

Mary Worth
Mary Worth - 01/23/2012

Wait, what kind of M.C.Escher house does Mary Worth live in. In panel 1, her chair has a back and it is up against a bookshelf. In panel 2, she places her book on the table to her left but all of a sudden the back of her chair is gone and the room opens up to have a couch and the bookshelf disappears. Can't wait to see who her visitors are. Maybe it's the "hippie thieves" from two story lines ago returning her purse.

Crankshaft
Crankshaft - 01/23/2012
Nobody does smugness like Batiuk.

Rhymes with Orange
Rhymes with Orange - 01/23/2012
A little overly complicated and long but I like this one. Anyone who has put together anything from IKEA will instantly get it.

That's all for today. Have a great week!

J. Elhew Bisbee

Hey there, cats and kittens. Also, people and other sentient beings. Are you ready for a pulse-pounding comics review? Then you should really read some other comics reviews, because these are... just sort of there. I'd like to thanks Bryce for the birthday wishes, and point out that the Meekrat Entertainment Group is putting out piping fresh content nearly daily! Now then, on with the reviews:

Rex Morgan, MD, 5/27/10
Photobucket
I know Josh Fruhlinger already covered this strip, but I really wanted to share my adoration of J. Elhew Bisbee with you. Look at that guy. He's like Colonel Sanders, but a chicken-less hobo. There's no reason Rex Morgan, MD shouldn't become J. Elhew Bisbee, Hobo at Large.

6Chix, 5/27/10
Photobucket
I just liked this one. Don't know why it's "Another monster!" though. This sort of makes me think it's in media res, and those women were fleeing/fighting another monster and then, suddenly, Health Care re-formed into another one.

Herb and Jamaal, 5/27/10
Photobucket
Behold! The only time you'll ever see anyone laughing at Herb and Jamaal!

Otter Pun Day 2010, DCR-Style

Are you people excited? You OTTER be, because it's Otter Pun Day! Otter Pun Day is a day when words and phrases that sound like "otter" are replaced with the word "otter". I realize this really isn't a pun, but I don't really care what you think about this, and you OTTER let me have my fun. As for most holidays, I've complied every comic strip about Otter Pun Day to show to you. Here we go:

Time-Mind Sync-Warp
Photobucket...
...
...
That's it. Just one, probably because Otter Pun Day is a holiday I made up last year, and Time-Mind Sync-Warp is... well, my comic. Well, now that I've OTTERly abused my position here, onward to actual comics reviewing! All comics are from today (January 8th, 2010)

6 Chix

That is one bold freakish potato-man. Any closer and his face will be right in them, and then they'll probably get kicked out the restaurant and the date will be OTTERly ruined. He OTTER try and contain his libido until later in the night.

Annie

For a while, Annie was devoid of the craziness that it contained the first few days that I did comics reviewing, but these past two weeks... I'm not sure if flesh-eating gas counts as crazy as much as it counts as very gruesome and grisly, and it looks like we'll get to see this man melt into a puddle. It OTTER be a fun time.

Beetle Bailey

I have a story concerning Beetle Bailey, but I shall save that for another time. For now, I will simply say that I don't think Sarge OTTER be letting random civilians into Camp Swampy based upon statements that they were once in the armed forces. I'm not certain, but I'm reasonably sure that it would be against regulations and several people would get into trouble over it.

Crock

I have seen and heard this joke about a million times, but until now, I wasn't sick of it. Now I am. You killed this joke for me, Crock. You OTTER be ashamed of yourself.

Henry

What the heck was Henry thinking, bringing a bunch of bees into a flower show? It's one thing if the bees were buzzing around a bunch of flowers, but to just go and bring in a freaking beehive? That's just insane, and while Henry isn't known for thinking things through, this is just above and beyond anything he's done in the past. He OTTER have given this plan a second thought.

New Adventures of Queen Victoria

Oddly enough, the final panel describes a good majority of the "New Adventures of Queen Victoria".

The OTTER... er... Other Coast

If the dog has no thumbs, then how was he able to turn on the TV in the first place? Or pick up the remote? Or hook up that box thing on top of the TV? These questions need answers.

Can I Talk To You About The Lord?

Tuesday is not my friend. Blah blah blah, nobody reads this part anyway blah blah blah.

Here's some comics.

Soup to Nutz 9/29/09
soup to nutz
That is actually true. Except for the last part. Then they would just be blind and probably get shot or stabbed.

Natural Selection 9/29/09
natural selection
They didn't have the balls to say 'Jesus Christ our Savior' or 'the Lord'? And I think even Jehovah's Witnesses would run from people wearing giant masks and performing a sacrifice.

Six Chix 9/29/09
six chix
The chicken came first because it's trying to lay the egg. One wing flapping would make a noise. The chicken crossed the road because there was food on the other side.

Oops, did I just destroy your 'zen'? Damn chicken.

Adam@Home 9/29/09
adam@home
Children are a pain in the ass. How funny.

And where is the mother? In the kitchen still? Wow, Adam is one lazy bastard. He is home all day and he still makes his wife do all the cooking.

Stone Soup 9/29/09
stone soup
Children are a pain in the ass. How funny.

Oh wait, I already used that line. Maybe because this joke was already used.

Why didn't they just get a babysitter? Then they could have gone wherever they wanted and not have worried about the children bothering them.

If Only the Daily Comics Review Didn't Suck

If only I had the time, this post would have been much sooner. I'm feeling particularly sassy and critical about lazy cartoonists today!

Soup to Nutz 12/4/08
Soup to Nutz 12/4/08
If only diarrhea jokes translated to print media as well as they do on TV shows. Is there really a book called "Fun with Dick"? Take a sharpie, add a S, and you can no longer carry that book in a school library.

Six Chix 12/4/08
Six Chix 12/4/08
If only they made novelty car horns that sounded like gun shots, I might actually buy one.

Brainwaves 12/4/08
Brainwaves 12/4/08
If only more cartoonists would focus on the jokes instead of the art, the comics page would be a much funnier place.

Arlo & Janis 12/4/08
Arlo & Janis 12/4/08
If only Family Guy didn't suck, this cartoon strip referencing a cartoon show might be good.

Sam & Silo 12/4/08
Sam & Silo 12/4/08
If only there was an extra line, it wouldn't look like Floyd has been wearing his hat for so long it has melded with his flesh. Meh, maybe it's just a birth defect.

Family Circus 12/4/08
Family Circus 12/4/08
If only Billy was a teenager. "L0L N00b, never heard of wikipedia?" Obviously in the Keane world, you still go to these hundreds of pound of outdated books for your information about the world. Tomorrow maybe we'll have a joke about the USSR.

Beetle Bailey 12/4/08
Beetle Bailey 12/4/08
If only more pharmacists had such wicked Goatees, pharmacies might be more happening places.

Friday Shorties and a Web Comic Suggestion

Six Chix 8/22/08
six chix
My cats just kill socks and bring them to us in the middle of the night; if I could get some venison out of the deal then that would be alright with me.

Drabble 8/22/08
drabble, terrorist fist bump comics
Once again, it's called a "pound", unless of course you're planning on bombing something (besides this strip) and then it's a terrorist fist jab.

Dr. McNinja is one of the best comics on the internet. The layout is in the form of a traditional comic book with a new page added to the current storyline every MWF. If you like ninjas or doctors and over the top action/humor, you will love Dr. McNinja. Chris Hastings both writes and illustrates the comic, which is astounding when you see the level of effort and consistent quality in the work. One of the most exciting new developments for the comic is that the current and all future installments will be colored. You owe it to yourself to check out Dr. McNinja as soon as possible. Of course, as of this writing the website is down for the first time since I started reading it over a year ago, but hopefully that will be remedied pronto.
