Monday Odds and Ends.....

Matt here. Nothing like a Monday morning at O'Hare Airport to make one appreciate.... ummm ..... not sure what one appreciates at O'Hare Airport. Anyways, on to the funnies:

Darryl, c'mon. You can do better than that. Unless "Shoulder Massage" is a euphemism for something else in the Baby Blues household.

Despite the pains that Ray Billingsley took to make this accurate, it still fails on the "Google it" challenge. Basically, the ice hotel itself is called the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel. There is no town called Sorrisniva, Norway. The hotel is in Alta, Norway. Anyways, I had more fun reading about Alta and the hotel than I did reading this comic strip.

Hi and Lois

I do like the coloring of daily comics, but for heaven's sake why is the floor black? Or does this mean that Hi and Lois are demons cast out of Hades and perform ceremonies while their kids are asleep? That would explain the passive/aggressive look on the baby's face.

Beetle Bailey

Sigh. Beetle Bailey has been really, really awful the past few months and this is no exception. First, jumping first has no bearing on opening a parachute first. One can jump first but still not open a parachute first. Second, I always disliked forced answers to questions. Sarge asked, are you ready to jump. He should have asked, who wants to jump first and it makes Beetle's answer better. Third, oh hell. There is no third other than I hate this strip.

Dennis the Menace

Before even reading the text of this comic, I knew that something was going on. I'd love to see what Alice's (is that the mom's name) expression is as it can't be good. And who is this person? Is she a babysitter? A friend? Someone they found on Craigslist for a three-way?

Funky Winkerbean

I hate lazy cartooning. Look at these three panels carefully. Let's use coach as the focal point and take his stance of facing forward. The reporter in panel 1 is to the left of coach and in front. In panel 2, he is to the left of coach and in front. In panel 3, he is to the right of coach and a bit behind him. What did he do? Some kind of quick jog around coach to get a different shot. ARRRGGGHHHH......make it stop! Oh, and the "joke" is horrible also.

Sally Forth

I work in HR and people don't just bring HR in and say "cut 40 people from our staff". That is a strategic decision and usually involves all lines of business and they debate and come up with an answer and THEN tell HR who they want to cut. But I guess that's too sophisticated for this new storyline.

Kind of a cute idea but the first line really bothers me with "Those Cuban dudes sat on me all day again". Since this is supposed to be Che Guevara's motorcycle, why are multiple people sitting on it? Do they take turns riding it? I have this image of the revolutionaries in the jungle going "Pick me! Pick me! My turn to ride it.".

Behold! The magic color changing walls of Mary Worth's apartment! First it's black and then it is a rather odd off-gray. Amazing! And what is on that bookshelf behind Nola? Is it a tomato, a pin cushion or some new tv set with an old fashioned atenna?

Has the creator of Hazel ever actually owned or seen a cat? Good luck (a) trying to get them to wait at a line for some pre-determined start and (b) have them actually race at once for anything. And I love it's the second annual cat race, 'cause the first one was such a success.

My Charlie Brown Vase!

When DC announced their relaunch a few months ago, people quickly noted that the Justice Society of America were nowhere to be seen and that the JSA are not even a part of the new universe. Well, DC just announced that the JSA will be returning. Here's the story from iFanboy.

The JSA is my favorite superhero team so I welcome their return. Heroes from that era were so original and unique. Green Lantern, Hourman and Mister Terrific were my favorite.

Dear Pab Sungenis, In order for a citation to be valid on Wikipedia, the source must be a third-party source so something like a newspaper article about you that says you are from Vineland. You cannot be your own citation. In fact, I noticed that someone added this comic strip to the Vineland article as the citation which doesn't actually verify that you are from Vineland. Also, I am questioning the validity of you actually being included in the "Notable People" section especially since you yourself do not have an article. So it appears the comic strip Zits is teaming with AAA to do a storyline about texting while driving. Zits hasn't been relevant in a long time. The last time I can remember a relevant storyline was when Jeremy decided to grow his hair long, which was the style at the time.

What a beautiful day...at least in my neck of the woods.  Which mean tomorrow it will snow.  We'll lead off this entry with today's Garfield which will segue into some shameless self-promotion.

I don't know what made Jon think he is handy around the house.  But at least we know Garfield has a Facebook page.  You know who else has a FB page?  Meekrat, Dog Spelled Forward, The Bird Feeder, Stupid Inventor and the DCR itself.  For some reason, I used to have one then got rid of it.  Maybe I will bring it back someday.  We all also have Twitter however @theDCR hasn't been updated since July 27, 2010.

Instead of making a joke about eating dolphins and pandas, I would contact the grocery store manager who would kindly ask these two douchebags to get off his property.  I mean, it is clear that they approaching people in the parking lot.  Then I would mention dolphins and pandas.

The kids in Wee Pals are way too touchy about everyday phrases.  Even the handicapped/disabled girl in the chair seems very upset and offended that that boy is using the phrase "handicap" correctly!!

New Adventures of Queen Victoria

Using the formula of comic book characters can use powers while the Archie and Newspaper side use popularity, my Final Four is Green Lantern, The Hulk, Jughead and, reluctantly, Calvin with Hulk and Calvin being the champions (based on popularity).  Who would win the championship...I'd go with Calvin.  What would your Final Four and such be?  Let us know in the comments.

Beetle Bailey Comes to an End

I'm not a fan of the Golden Globes.  Frankly, why would I want to watch a bunch of movies and people I've never heard of when a bunch of awards that essentially mean nothing when they win Oscars and Emmys a few months later? Does anyone remember that episode of "The Twilight Zone" where the Earth is moving closer to the sun so everything is getting hotter but then it turns out to be a dream and the world is actually moving away from the sun and getting colder?  I've actually had intelligent discussions about what I would have happen.  I always choose the world freezing because for the most part you can turn up the heat, put on more clothes and basically keep yourself warm through various means whereas the world being plunged into the sun would just be horrible.  You can only take off so much clothing and air conditioning only works so much before you are just sweltering and it's only 115 degrees outside!!

As for where I would live.  Neither Phoenix or Miami, thank you.

Fun fact:  The Girls and Sports Wikipedia page is one of the pages I watch and it is, by far, the one that is vandalized the most.  Most of it is people just comment on how bad the art is which makes me wonder if those people can better than this.
