The Willing Suspension of Disbelief 10/15/08

October is almost half way over already? How time flies when you're having fun. We're still waiting on our first comment-worthy Halloween themed comic strips, which may be a good sign that there is more to make comics about than Jack O' Lanterns for the whole month.

Blondie 10/15/08

Look out the layout of the Bumsted living room. One chair facing the TV with another facing off in to the corner of oblivion. Blondie's house design mantra must have been "Fuck Feng Shui".

Ferd'nand 10/15/08
Ferd'nand 10/15/08
Even the worst boxing commission in the nation wouldn't let you in to the ring with a hat on, give me a break Ferd'nand!

Liberty Meadows 10/15/08

Liberty Meadows may have hit on something here. We may have finally discovered what it takes to make Cathy enjoyable to read. Twice the legal driving limit.

October is Here With Comics and Cheer!

What is this traveling on the wind? It can't be October already! Fall produces some of the best and worst comic strips all year. The holidays and crazy weather provide ample fodder for cartoonist the world over. I don't usually get sick up it until about December 26th.

Loose Parts 10/1/08

This is the biggest doctors office in the whole world.

The Norm 10/1/08
The Norm 10/1/08
A few quibbles with this comic strip today. 1:Bronte isn't a real name, even for a girl. 2:Nobody carries around a picture of somebody who isn't even their girlfriend. 3:Norm's friend is absolutely right.

We The Robots 10/1/08

Have I mentioned recently that I am looking for more people to join me in blogging for the Daily Comics Review so I can have some free time and it can be updated in a timely manner?

Sally Forth 10/1/08
Ted is forgetting one of the seminal rules of marriage. Any time you talk about another woman, you must cite something atrocious about her so that your wife doesn't get suspicious. We'll be seeing the repercussions of the lack of his foresight for the rest of the week!

Gasoline Alley 10/1/08
<br />Gasoline Alley 10/1/08
It has NOT been long enough since this war in Iraq started to be making jokes about it, I mean did they forget that it's still going? This strip is like watching a car crash day after day after day...

Friday Comics Mash-up

So lets try a new gimmick of taking a hand-full of extremely out of context single panels from multi-panel strips and splice them together. They are bizarre by themselves and hopefully somewhat entertaining once we line them up together.

Saturday Review of Comics

9 Chickweed Lane 8/30/08
9 Chickweed Lane 08-30-08
I normally don't show Chickweed in my own blog because it's so frustrating. Lately they've been talking about noogies. That's right, noogies. I don't even know what's going on in the comic and I read it everyday.

Gasoline Alley 08/30/08
Gasoline Alley 08-30-08
How about "EcoLine?" Wait, that's mine. The hicks on Gasoline Alley can't have it.

We the Robots 8/30/08
We the Robots 08-30-08
I used to work for Medicare and you'd be surprised how many people were like this. And I wasn't even medical help. You'd probably also be surprised by how many people were suing their doctors. What a sad country we live in.

Saturdays Are Made, Not Born

Brian here, taking over the Saturday reins from Bryce. Let me know if you like what you see and even if you don't. But just remember that it's my first day.

Citizen Dog 8/16/08
CitizenDog08-16-08
This is why you never get a talking dog. They are always smarter than you and sometimes carry hammers. Sure,, it may look like fun and games to have a dog that can talk to you but in the end, all your gonna wind up doing is paying for many repairs on your house and/or car. Settle for a dog more like Snoopy. He just pretends his doghouse is an airplane.

Cathy 8/16/08
Cathy08-16-08
42 year old dish rag? Remind me never to eat at Cathy's parent's house.

We the Robots 8/16/08
We the Robots 08-16-08
That classic look people get when they discover the address they typed leads to an adult website.

The New Adventures of Queen Victoria 8/16/08
Queen Victoria 08-16-08
That would be so awesome to be able to do that. It'd be even cooler if you could really turn into Captain Marvel.

Alley Oop 8/16/08
Alley Oop 08-16-08
I don't know what's going on in Alley Oop but first we were celebrating Oop's 75th birthday then Will Rogers shows up and teaches Oop how to lasso. What's Will Rogers got to do with a caveman?!

Gross Oversimplification of Comic Strip Punchlines for 7/28/08

Vacation is over and I'm back to my regular schedule again! Today we're going to take these strips as literally as possible and extrapolate them out to the point where it's so ridiculous, it's funny (hopefully). We're still looking for additional writers for DCR, if you're interested we've got about a million ways to contact us but the best is dailycomicsreview@gmail.com

Overcompensating 7/28/08
liberal comic, web comic, overcompensating
Jeffrey Rowland decided to get started early with today's theme. I'm guessing he's spoofing Mallard Filmore AKA the worst conservative comic strip ever.

Heathcliff 7/28/08
heathcliff
Heathcliff has beaten his family so mercilessly over the years any time they uttered the "species-who-must-not-be-named" they've retreated to completely idiotic sayings.

The Pajama Diaries 7/28/08
The Pajama Diaries
Nothing gets Rob going like wrestling with his children? Pajama Diaries gets more interesting as a daily comic every day.

Henry 7/28/08
henry, sailor comic
Henry inhabits a world of bizarre role-playing and dress-up for the affection of women. There's no way his head would actually fit in that hat, unless it was a big gooey mass instead of a skull.

Garfield 7/28/08
garfield comic strip
Garfield has been running this exact same joke every day for the last 30 years and you've never noticed. There was one day they made some crack about lasagna, but that was it.

Gil Thorpe 7/28/08
gil thorpe comic
Baseball players are extremely sarcastic and physical with people, expecially strangers who they've known for less than 5 minutes.

We the Robots
7/28/08
we the robots, work sucks comic strip
Bob has figured out the solution to getting through your work day. Hopefully this comic strip will help you survive your Monday, see ya tomorrow!

There are Still Funny Comics! 7/16/08

Today we've got continuity issues, color problems and failed satire followed up by incorrect sound effects, sexual economy and dick jokes. Who would have thought all this goodness could show up in just one day in the comics? This has been a landmark week for print comics and web comics and this blog! Google has been giving me great page ranking and more and more people find DCR every day. Welcome to all our new readers and thanks to everybody that comes and reads my comics ramblings every day.

XKCD 7/16/08
Photobucket
An illustration of the perfect web comic today with XKCD. It is so simple and elegant with just enough inappropriateness to keep it out of the newspapers.

Mark Trail 7/16/08
Photobucket
Besides breaking the comic strip rule of show (draw) instead of tell (write it out), a gun would only be making a WHAM! sound if Cherry was smashing Kelly Welly in the skull with it. You wouldn't find anybody opposed to that idea, but instead the artist went the family friendly route. Next time I'd just go with BLAM! for that classic gun sound effect touch.

Herd And Jamaal 7/16/08
Photobucket
Who labels their coffee mugs with their names? This must be a result of Sarah going overboard after she found Herb wearing her undergarments. "How was I supposed to know they were YOUR panties?" And the rest is history, thanks to the label gun.

Jack Ohman 7/16/08
Photobucket
How can you write about comics and not comment about the hoopla surrounding the New Yorker's Barack Obama cover? My answer is to post this comic as a cop-out and not say anything else!

We The Robots 7/16/08
Photobucket
The robot overlord boss strongly reminds me of the amazing game Portal from Valve. There's also something about dancing robots you can't ignore.

Barney Google & Snuffy Smith 7/16/08
Photobucket
Things we can learn from today's BG&SS:
1-Cartoonists and colorists have communication problems.
2-Whoever colors the strip hates it so much they don't even bother to read the dialog.
3-Peppermint fixes stomach cramps?

Archie 7/16/08
Photobucket
I'm sorry but did something happen in Archie today? I apologize for asking but I was distracted by THE GIANT CAMELTOE in all 3 panels. There are some contours you're just not supposed to draw - especially in a family friendly comic like Archie claims to be.

Diesel Sweeties web comic 7/16/08
Photobucket
It's the biggest comic we've ever featured on DCR but it needed to be done. Richard Stevens hits the perfect mix of business/economics lingo and body objectification to satisfy my inner BA nerd needs. It is rare, even in web comics, to see so much dialog that actually ends up being worth your time once you get done reading it. So read it already!

Another Week of Comic Strips 6/30/08

I hope everyone is looking forward to the 4 day work week! We also have a plethora of fireworks and flag waving comics heading our way thanks to the 4th of July. I am surprised there weren't any of these comics out today but I'm sure the artists will make up for this negligence the rest of the week.

XKCD
6/30/08
Photobucket
XKCD is the geekiest web comic that is actually funny on the web today. Most of the time the jokes are way over my head, but it would be impossible for most people to enjoy this panel.

Diesel Sweeties web comic 6/30/08
Photobucket
"It's the circle of life, and it moves us all..."

We The Robots
6/30/08
Photobucket
Something about 2 robots who are completely illogical giving each other a high-five was just perfect today.

F Minus 6/30/08
Photobucket
Another fantastic World's Worst Grandpa comic from Tony Carrillo today. WWG is probably my favorite semi-regular running gag in the comics pages and I get the impression I'm not the only one who feels this way.
