April's Foolishness 2010
Hey there, everybody! Sorry to be getting to this so late. In any case, today was April Fool's Day. Several years ago, newspaper cartoonists decided to do something unique to celebrate, and for one day, many of them swapped comic strips. You can find more details here. Unfortunately, they haven't tried it again, at least not on such a scale. Anyway, today I gathered up comic strips in which the reader was pranked, because seriously, they're comic strips. The characters are pulling pranks on each other every week. Anyway, here's your commentary:
BC, 4/1/2010
This is the only I culled today that I'm vaguely apprehensive about, as the caveman is getting tricked much more than the reader. Still, I'm sure at least a few people saw the first panel of this strip and thought that their newspaper had printed it upside down.
Daddy's Home, 4/1/10
This one is really just sort of lame, which is sad, because it includes both Calvin and Dilbert. The spirit is there, though, and it deserves props just for that.
Imagine This and Pinkerton, 4/1/10
This is more in the vein of what I expect from comic strips around this time, though I wish it was greater in scope. Also, that the cartoonists did more than just swap characters. I do like the false ending "Imagine This", though.
New Adventures of Queen Victoria, 4/1/10
This ran in place of "New Adventures of Queen Victoria" today, and the fact that they ran an incredibly old "Mutt and Jeff" strip instead of a normal comic pleases me. Kudos to you, comic.
Webcomics also did stuff for this day!
-Amazing Superpowers swapped out their normal comics for audio comics:
-Axe Cop claimed to have struck up a partnership with Axe Body Spray.
-Brawl in the Family tried to convince us that Nintendo was angry at them, and provided some more Waluigi comics.
-Dinosaur Comics replaced all the images in their comics with this, which I guess also counts as a Nedroid prank:
-Dresden Codak did whatever that was. It's a video and I really have no desire to watch it, so it might be NSFW, but I'm not sure.
-Gunshow killed off the Anime Club, and claimed all their new comics would be on Pooda Webcomics. I would post the Anime Club comic here, but it's really long and sort of depressing, in a darkly humorous way.
-The Nonadventures of Wonderella took all the word balloons off the latest comic.
-Pictures for Sad Children did that, and I'm not sure if it was really an April Fool's prank or not.
-Real Life Comics was, most likely, just messing with us.
-Registered Weapon did a thing, too. Could be NSFW, depending on how your boss feels about cash registers with large attached to them.
-Shark Attack Comics became Bear Attack Comics.
-xkcd converted their site into Unix, and no matter what your feelings are on the comic itself, that's pretty neat.
Several sites did the silent comics thing actually, and I guess it was supposed to be a prank? Except a lot of them worked well without sound? And what about comics which are always silent? I mean, even I did a silent comic, but that was just because. Anyway, there's all your stuff. Tune in tomorrow when I update in a timely fashion perhaps!
