The Daily Comics Review for 8/19/08
Every now and then you have a great idea that you lose excitement about over time. The whole Olympic medal competition for the best comics I talked about last week is a great example. I'm just not feeling it any more and I hope you can forgive me. Enjoy today's snark and I'll make it up to you in the future!
Housebroken 8/19/08
Sometimes you miss the subtle art changes in a comic strip because the vast majority of daily comics are dialog driven. Housebroken is doing more every day to improve itself on both fronts.

Ha ha ha, he doesn't have health care and his boss doesn't care! I love America.
Ginger Meggs 8/19/08
I read a ridiculous amount of comic strips every day before I do the comic review so hopefully you'll understand that I don't always read strips correctly on the first pass. Today as I was scanning Ginger Meggs my eyes totally read "A public toilet?" instead of what was actually there and my twisted mind somehow managed to make GM funny again.

Today we have possibly the most nonsensical motivational line in history. Maybe he could have said "fly on" to follow the superman reference or "write on" since he's a writer. The policy decisions of this White House would suddenly make sense if we were to find out GW has this panel framed on his bed-side table.
Cul de Sac 8/19/08
Any time I see the word tarpaulin on the comic pages I have to be post it as a personal rule. It is a completely excessive word to use when tarp means the same thing, but it sounds so awesome and the pronunciation confuses everyone so much that it has managed to survived this far in our language. Long live tarpaulin!

I must work the word tarpaulin into one of my comics someday.
I'm not an expert on comic book writing, but I have some experience in it. Why would the publishers just hand over the Superman franchise to old whatshisface (Peter?) in FW? Wouldn't they have asked for a plot outline, or even a more indepth description of what he wanted to write?
I love Cul de Sac, and I'm glad to see you mentioning it here.
Apparently FW is doing a 3 week storyline about this schmuck writing superman as a way to pay tribute to the 70th anniversary of his superness
Is it just me or is Housebroken a blatant rip on Peanuts?

Josh--the rip on Peanuts is the joke.
