The Return of Mike P Again

I'm back again! Of course, I was just here yesterday, so there's really no reason to get all excited. Unless you like comic strip reviews and commentary, in which case your pants should be excited off. Remember to check out the Meekrat Entertainment Group, too. It's the bee's knees and, perhaps, even the cat's pajamas. Now then, here's a sampling of today's comic strips:

Girls and Sports

Ah, this is more like it. I don't find anything offensively stupid about it, but it does cause the minor high point of yesterday to be shown for what it was: a minor hiccup in the way the world works. And the way the world works involves this comic being stupid.

Of course, according to the way the world works, this comic strip should have nothing but fairly lame sub-Flintstones style humor, with the dinosaurs and all that. Of course, long-time readers will know that the strip actually takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and that it's honestly gotten a lot better since Johnny Hart died. Anyway, I only bring this strip up because seeing Spongebob in it unnerves me so, for whatever reason. It's just something that should not be.

Cow and Boy

This, on the other hand, is simply craziness. I knew the Boy had parents, but I had no idea he had a sister. The boy's insanity also reaches new heights (or depths) but why? How is fishing for squirrels different from fishing for fish? What makes one animal all right for consumption and not others? The Boy is not crazy, then: he simply ignores societal mores in order to live his life to the fullest. Good on you, Boy, but hopefully you don't take it too far. The last thing we need is you walking around in a hobo-skin coat.

Meanwhile, there's new "Twisp and Catsby" up at Penny Arcade, as you can see because I'm showing it to you. From the comments, it seems like this will go on for a few strips, which brings me no end of delight. Also, I find Twisp in the second panel to be hilarious, for some reason. I can't look at it without at least a mild chuckle.

Thank God it's Comics Friday! 6/27/08

One of the best things about web comics is that they allow their creators almost unlimited license to do as they please. Penny Arcade started a new epic storyline on Wednesday which didn't make any sense until I visited today and read more about it. I love spoofs of 80's/early 90's sports movies and the premise for the next 2 weeks of strips has me very excited! This is a panel that is just past its time. For all the years it has been around the illustrations have actually gotten worse and jokes like these show the well has dried up. The author clearly has no previous experience with track and field because this would be a hammer throw. DUH!


Joe and Monkey 6/27/08

I don't really know what the deal is with Joe and Monkey but I really like this comic. It was a daily strip for a while in the same format as all the others but recently switched over to the larger format with 3 updates a week. Any comic about a sexually frustrated deity is good in my book. Take note Mythtickle.
