Daily Comics Review 6/23/08
9 Chickweed Lane 6/23/08
This strip is for every ballerina who loves to use big words and talk endlessly about their feelings, which I know make up a huge portion of my readership. Although I sometimes struggle with understanding the comic and the punchlines often fly right over my head, the artistic style of the strip is always noteworthy. Today is a great example of trying something new with the frame style which I think really pays off. Instead of shrinking the two characters down and delivering the dialog over multiple panels, the artist tweaks the perspective and forces the reader to interact with the strip to read it. It's a great way to get more attention paid to your dialog and when it's done simply and is easy to follow, it makes the strip much stronger.

Thanks for the perfect fulfillment of my daily political and inappropriateness needs TNAQV!
Working Daze 6/23/08
As I talked about last week, Working Daze recently underwent a change in the cartoonist position. I was resistant to the change, as I almost always am, but the new style has been growing on me. I am happy to report that the strip is still doing contests where they implore the readers to fill in the blanks with the chance to win a book! It's lazy but fun, and something I would do if I was a cartoonist. My submission would be "I thought it was just a sex robot!" because I can't think up anything else funny and sex always works.
