That Damn Lead Time

Most comics you read in the funny pages were written upwards of three weeks in the past! This causes a quite a conundrum for the good cartoonist. Do you reference something that just happened and then hope it stays topical until the comic is published or do you just ignore the world at large in your work? Bad cartoonists don't even think about that kind of thing, the results of which you can witness right here in today's post!

Football season ended in February and doesn't start up again until the end of August. I can understand a woman possibly not knowing that information. The bachelor is a show watched predominantly by women and perhaps bears (just a different definition of the word), and it was wrapped up well over a month ago (I know because the wifey watched it). Have I said yet how much I hate this comic?

Speaking of out of date, I'm pretty sure all of the Baha Men are dead already. I strongly considered savings this comic for a nomination for the worst comic of the month. That's all I have to say about that.

Do people really think this is how Google Earth works? People think they just have thousands of satellites up in space, constantly watching every square inch of the planet? What would have changed if in panel 2 the mom instead replied "Yep, on the backstop and the home-run fence!"? The comic would have made some fucking sense.

Hmmm lets see... one of the light bulbs is missing in panel two, the lady has a purse strap in panel 1, the guys eyes in panel 1..... he's looking at me. Why is he looking at me? OH GOD NO MATTER WHERE I MOVE HE IS LOOKING AT ME! BOB WEBBER MAKE HIM STOP AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Who let the dogs out jokes weren't funny when the song was current. maybe he thought it'd be hilarious to make a who let the dogs out joke several years too late

Wow, you really got some doozies today. Those first three comics may be among the most craptacular I've seen in a while. It's almost a shame to include Bob Weber's in there among them. I mean, look at that little kid in the bakery cabinet. Genius!

my god, its only April but that Reality Check might be the worst comic of the year. I actually groaned out loud (GOL?) and winced in discomfort from that cartoon.

Could a cartoonist actually be that out of touch, boring, uncreative, unfunny and self deluded that they thought a contrived who let the dogs out gag could actually pass off as a joke? or did they just think "ehh who gives a f*ck" and send it off 5 minutes before tee time?
