Monopoly, Icebergs, and Bird Poop
Hey everyone! Zachary the Stupid Inventor here with today's comic review!
Sorry I wasn't able to do a review last week, I was with the fiance setting up our future apartment and was away from the computer all day... anyways, lets begin shall we?
Nitpicks:Love Is: Dean's Comic Booth loves to photoshop Love Is to make fun of it, and today's panel is just too easy....
Nancy: This is something I struggle with when drawing my Missed The Boat comic for my local newspaper... I have to first repeat a characters personality if I'm going to be using that for the punchline. Notice how here Sluggo adds 'the rich kid' to set up the gag. That and the fact that they felt the need to explain that it's the Monopoly guy over-explained the joke and made it not funny, just my opinion.
The big news today is that the punchline in today's Dennis the Menace is the same as an old Pearls Before Swine strip. Obviously I don't think it was stolen on purpose, it's just interesting when these things happen. Here's a link to the Pearls Before Swine blog post about it: http://stephanpastis.wordpress.com/2011/01/26/two-cartoons-living-or-dead/Daddy's Home: Another nitpick here, the pacing in this strip is off. The "it's worse than the WNBA" line should have been put in the third panel, and then you have the reveal of the tall and angry woman in panel 4. It's weird having the setup and reveal in the same panel, and the cartoonist had the room to put the dialogue in panel 3. just my opinion, what do you guys think?
Lio: Just a minor nitpick here, I think Mark Tatulli drew Lio's hand too small in the last panel under the money, it took me a while to realize he was under there. I guess if the pile was too small we would just think he got a lot of money and wasn't crushed to death.
The Good:Heart Of The City: Another awesome Mark Tatulli strip, I'm loving this storyline, MAD magazine rules! Also, Mark Tatulli did a video podcast interview on Tall Tale Radio, check it out! http://talltalefeatures.com/2011/01/25/episode-110-mark-tatulli-video/
Brewster Rockit: This science fair storyline has been pure gold, Brewster Rockit is one of my favorite strips on the comics page.
Boomerangs: I believe this is the first time I'm posting this comic, but talking as someone who recently got engaged, I can really appreciate this strip.
Anyways that's it for me, let me know what you think in the comments!
Until next time!

In addition to Lio's hand, you can also see his feet. Although I didn't see either until it was pointed out to me. But I still got the idea that he was under the money.
@Ty, I didn't see the foot until you pointed it out, I guess the joke still comes across, just a minor nitpick on my part.
I don't think that a pile of money that high would kill him. It doesn't even look like that much money. I bet the genie gave him only $1 bills.
Re/ "Daddy's Home:" I think you're right.
...and I wrote it.
