Hey everyone! Zach here again, as I'll be every Wednesday, we have some some pretty weird comics this week, I didn't find that many that were super funny, but there a good deal at the end of the post for those of you who like buying comic book collections (you can skip to the end at read it, I wont be insulted.)
The Bad:
Spiderman: My problem with the spiderman newspaper strip is that I think they drag their feet all week and wait for the action to happen on Sunday, then back to stretching out the story. Their effort to make you feel better about this by always having Mary Jane in a pink nightie just bothers me more...
Girls and Sports: I consider this comic to be inspirational. I read it every day and say to myself, "If these guys can get into the paper, then so can you!". I have nothing against a sports themed comic for college aged guys, but the main male characters are just chauvinistic jerks. I really think I can just post this comic every week and there will always be something I take issue with. Today's Joke: I'll marry you for a big screen TV!..... Seriously?
Agnes: The fact that the girl is hoping that her mother is a Queen and is going to DIE soon really creeps me out rather make me laugh. I don't get this comic in my paper, so maybe there's some context I'm missing, but I don't think so.
Natural Selection: Oh G-d, this comic is horrible, this image will forever be burned in my retinas, and since I had to read it, you guys must suffer too... sorry!
The Weird:
Blondie: Oh, racism! Apparently Dagwood is an Anti-Clownite... "Boy, those guys sure love their seltzer bottles", yeah and they all have big feet and drive tiny cars too! Most people find clowns creepy so I guess it's ok, lol. (Btw, I'm not saying the comic strip Blondie is really racist, just that this comic is really weird to me, hence it's in the "Weird" section of my review.)
Off The Mark: Am I missing something here? I feel like the cartoonist is being intentionally vague so that the comic will look edgy, but he really has no specific meaning for this comic. Either way it's weird and possibly gross, but not nearly as gross as:
Bizarro: This comic is funny, but still very weird, so it's a good segue between the Weird and Good sections... especially since the name of the comic itself is Bizarro. This image also creeps me out a bit, but it's nothing compared to the previous eye-gouger...
The Good:
Lio: I know I featured this comic last week, and Eric did yesterday, but it's just so consistently funny and awesome I just had to feature it again. Especially since I myself did a cartoon on Brains In Jars and they are awesome! http://www.stupidinventor.com/2009/11/23/comic-12-the-brain-in-a-jar/
Brewster Rockit: OMG! I just discovered this comic yesterday and I LOVE it! It's about a few characters on a space station. It has a sort of retro type look, but the humor is modern and really funny, if not totally weird too. Up above is today's comic and below is one my favorites from the month or two I looked through. I like the Scientist character even though he's a bit evil.
I can totally see this being a Stupid Inventor comic, I love it!
