The Jerk in Yellow

Hey there, folks. Did you know that I was on the DCR Podcast? I was, and you can hear me blather on for a bit by clicking here.

If you live in the United States, you know that it's the day taxes are due. Many comic strips chose to do jokes pertaining to this fact, and while many were lame and only one or two were good, this is the only I liked enough to show you people. For the most part, it's a pretty lame comic. The King counting money-bag carrying peasants instead of sheep is a variation on a very old joke. That makes this comic strip, though, is the little message from the King at the bottom left. It's perfectly in character for the King to wish everyone a happy tax day, and I just like it for some reason.

Like many weeks, I'm simply appalled at the behavior of whatever the yellow shirted guy's name is. He and his friend are pretty much the worst, most selfish guys I have ever seen and they both deserve to have terrible things done to them. I have the nagging suspicion that I'm supposed to be rooting for the yellow shirted guy and find his antics charming and amusing, while I'm supposed to think Joann is out of line. Quite the opposite, in fact: if someone is a good enough friend that they just walk into your house without asking (or live with you) then you go to their birthday party. This guy's just a jerk.

Apple Annie is the only person in the Funkyverse who has actually had good things happen to her. I mean, yes, she had schizophrenia, but she's since gotten well enough to become a literary agent. So perhaps all this cancer and whatnot is just a hurdle the characters need to get past to experience things like joy and happiness. Imagine, by this time next year, the Funkyverse could be a happy place!

Yeah, I don't think so.
