The Daily Comics Review: WebComics Wednesday

by Hal Bent

Hooray! Its WebComics Wednesday! Time to break away from my Anti-Ziggy soapbox and love of Get Fuzzy in order to spotlight some of my favorite "Non-Newspaper Comics."  So without further ado, let's get into a couple great web comics:

Frank Jordan has been doing Company Man online and doing a great job keeping the laughs coming with his  humorous take on the fictional public relations firm F.R.J. Media Group who represent disgraced celebrities (I know, that sounds like it belongs on Adult Swim! I'd watch that!).  I picked this comic simply because I love warm peanut butter--forget peanut butter toast, I want a grilled peanut butter sandwich (think grilled cheese and replace cheese with peanut butter).  Also had a great and timely Tiger Woods comic this week (He's ranked number one again and is timely and relevant).  Timely, relevant, funny?  Check out Company Man by Frank Jordan, it's Daily Comics Review WebComics Wednesday approved!

Boston Metaphysical Society is a "steampunk supernatural mystery" which publishes a page of amazingly well-drawn art by Emily Hu and story by creator Madeleine Holly-Rosing.  Basically, it is 1895 in Boston and an inter-dimensional evil is on the loose in a steam punk Boston.  As  steampunk, there are steam powered Victorian retro-futuristic technologies (does that make as much sense as it does in my head?).  It's a fascinating and addictive story, the works are collected into chapters and for sale as a collection and there are companion novellas as well.  The three main characters, Caitlin, Samuel and Granville are interesting characters in a fascinating world with exciting plot lines. Secret scientist societies, Alexander Graham Bell, Harry Houdini, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, this site does a fantastic job of grabbing the reader.  You can check out the page and get up to date quickly by reading chapter one and jumping into chapter two.

Company Man looks way too copy-paste for me. I don't know why you'd make a comic if you didn't want to draw.
