Dick Still Better

It's been just over seven weeks since Joe Staton and Mike Curtis took over the moribund Dick Tracy and the strip has become almost unrecognizably good.

We've already seen an entire storyline, and now a new one has started that may or may not be some quick comedy relief. It has certainly started out amusing, with people's reaction to the baby like the strip below and the great background shot of B.O. Plenty getting nailed with a bottle.

Tracy reacting with his trademark "Ye Gods!" is both expected and delightful. This baby is more threatening than Flattop!

But it's more than just better pacing and great touches of humor — this team really has resurrected what made Gould's Tracy great.

Take a look at "Hot Rize." Of course "Hot Rize" (and Ms. Biscuits) are signature Gouldian names, but Hot Rize actually looks like some thought were put into her name and design.

I also really enjoyed that little nod to the "fourth wall" from Tracy back at the station.

It's really great to have a classic back in fighting shape.

The new work is a joy to read. No need to snark at it...

It is so sad that Dick Locher ran it into the ground for so many years. I think Locher being 80-something had a lot to do with it. He appeared to be too stubborn, too set in his ways...plainly, just TOO OLD!
