Frankenstein Isn't The Only One Using Recycled Parts
Hey everyone! Zachary, The Stupid Inventor, here again this week for Wednesday's Comic Review:
The Bad:Grin and Bear It: This strip really bothered me today, because the punchline is a total rip-off from the old Groucho Marx quote: " I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER." Even the name of the law firm Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe is an old joke from vaudeville acts, I've definitely seen it in The Three Stooges...
Family Circus: Random nitpick, shouldn't it read "I can't believe somebody threw whatever THIS is away"? I could be wrong.
Is it just me or does it seem like the parents had thrown the kid into the dumpster and are now disappointed that he's back... or maybe I've just been reading The Comics Curmudgeon too often...
The Weird: Free Range: For some reason there are two Frankenstein gags today, this first one isn't bad, although I'm sure it seemed a lot funnier on paper, but the actual image of angel body parts doesn't work as well as it should...
Reality Check: This one is a bit too cheesy, but my biggest pet peeve about it is that they barley show any of his parts besides for the face, hand an foot... also it makes it seem like Frakenstein is a robot....
The Good:Safe Haven: Really like the visual gag in the third panel in this one, I think it works really well.
Ben: Another example of a great visual, this strip really made me laugh today. The black socks with sandals is a nice touch too.
Pajama Diaries: This is a funny strip, which is no surprise because the comic is almost always good. I just hope the cartoonist doesn't have the daughter try to sell her art because that would totally be a rip off of Ruthie from One Big Happy.... just saying.
Ok, that's it for me everyone, see you next week!

The first comic got it right, but the second one didn't.
Frankenstein is the DOCTOR.
Grin and Bear It additional nitpick: Since they're inside the lawyer's office, the firm name should read backwards on the door.
Family Circus: Nope, Keane got it right. Compare:
- I found this in the trash. I don't know what this is.
- I found this in the trash. I don't know what it is.
Neither second sentence is wrong, but the second version is more natural.
@Christopher Glass
I was actually thinking of mentioning that, but I had already done too many nitpicks for one post.
@TimK Oooh, good catch on the nitpick!
True, it just sounds weird to me...then again there's a reason I'm not an English Teacher
