When Good Comics Go Bad
Hey everyone!
Zachary the Stupid Inventor here with this Wednesday's comic review!
The Bad:Pearls Before Swine: It's with a heavy heart that I put one of my favorite comics in the Bad section this week, but rhyming "far afield" with "Garfield" is too lame even in a "lame on purpose" way.... this looks like the beginning of an arc, so maybe the rest of the Chorus's lines will be better. They certainly couldn't be worse.
Off The Mark: Another comic that's always in the good section making it's first appearance in the Bad. I get the joke, chairs have wooden legs, so the idea of a wooden leg prosthetic for a chair is silly. But it just doesn't make sense in a world of living chairs... the logistics of these things bother me, but perhaps I analyze too much... Even a lacquer/liquor joke would have been funnier in my opinion. (My humble, non-professional opinion, by the way.)
The Weird:Beetle Bailey: I think using Shrek and Charlie Chaplin in the same punchline is a perfect example of how weird these "Zombie Strips" are.
Nitpicks:Hi and Louis: Is it just me or is the baby's expression wrong for the joke? She seems surprised and sad, instead of a "I'm busting you" look with the eyebrows down and maybe a smile.... just my opinion.
The Pajama Diaries: One of my favorite and most well drawn strips, so I couldn't bare to put it in the Bad section, especially after all the other good strips had to go there too. Maybe it's just because I'm an Engineering student Minoring in math, but the formula here just disappoints me. If her grand total is 3.5 days, and if V = X + Y - Z, then Z = X + Y - V, so assuming the ages of the 2 kids are 12 and 10 (I'm wrong on that, but in the right ball park), then Z = 2 + 22 - 3.5 = 20.5. So that's 20.5 meltdowns a week, or about 3 a day. I GUESS that could be possible, depending on your definition of a "meltdown", but I'm still disappointed with the formula. If I'm not doing at LEAST some multiplication or division, I'm not happy. (I'm such a nerd.)
The Good:Pickles: I have a similar exchange with my Mother about once a week.
Get Fuzzy: It's totally true! Cats > Vampires
Lio: I know I've been posting a lot of Lio lately, but I couldn't resist posting this hilarious crossover strip! I'm a sucker for the crossover shtick... and it's good for both comics because I went to check Cathy (which I never normally read) to see if there was a response, but there wasn't.... oh well!
See you next week!

BB: Is Shrek known as a bad kisser or something? Or even a good kisser? That doesn't really make sense. Also, Beetle has never been depicted as walking like Charlie Chaplin.
TPD: According to the formula, the more kids you have, the longer your vacation time is? That doesn't make any sense. I'm pretty sure if you had 10 kids of any age, you would not want to be on vacation with them at all.
