Dream of the Rarebit Fiend

Yes, I know it's the Fourth of July and I should be posting strips featuring our beloved comic strip characters blowing stuff up with fireworks and barbecuing (yes, there probably is barbecuing) but I don't really want to. Instead, here are some strips from a series called Dreams of the Rarebit Fiend, created by Windsor McCay (creator of Little Nemo in Slumberland)in 1904, using the pseudonym "Silas", Dreams focuses on ever-changing characters having crazy dreams brought on by eating the wrong foods (most common: Welsh rarebit (rabbit)). You may need to click on the image so you can read it.

This was all I could get before the site apparently went down for maintenance but you can more on this strip and many others at comicstriplibrary.org. Dream of the Rarebit Fiend ended in 1914.

Next week, a regular post featuring the Sunday comics should be back. Until next time, happy Fourth.
