Hairy-backed Socialist Costumes

Comic strips are a lot like people. I tend to only like a few.

Let's begin.

I find this both annoying, and spot-on at the same time. I'm really thinking that socialist is becoming the newest "pop" word to call people in the political field that don't agree with you. If you support anything that isn't Republican, for instance, than obviously you'd rather give all your money to someone who puts a boot in your anus when you sneeze.

I'd really appreciate someone adding that to Wikipedia. That Socialism is paying someone to put their boots in your anus. Please. Take a screenshot and tell me about it (because it likely won't last long).

Anyway... this comic is very carelessly throwing socialist out there in hopes of generating buzz within some sort of crowd. Probably people throwing parties involving tea. I'm not sure.

What in the world is going on?! It kind of feels like if this was one of those older television shows that there'd need to be a freeze-frame of the dog shrugging his shoulders and someone saying his name, "Maaarmmaaduuukkkeeee..." Wah wah wah.

But... even with that this strip would still be pretty effed up.

A.) That's a freakishly tiny sheep. Like a dwarf sheep. Which leads me to wonder if it's mass is super-condensed, and therefore making this crazy woman incredibly strong for being able to pick up this uber-heavy dwarf sheep.

B.) Shaken sheep syndrome anyone?

C.) Please refer to the VERY NEXT COMIC for the most curious thing...

Did I miss the memo where they moved Halloween to the middle of April? Because... why else would there be two costume jokes today? Was there something in the news that I don't watch or read that made costuming popular on April 19th, 2010? Please enlighten me if there was.

If not, then this is the dumbest coincidence. Possibly ever.

The fact that they're Egyptians has ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING ON THE PUNCHLINE. When you're setting a scene in writing, there's a good amount of planning that goes into where the scene shall take place and which characters will be there. Setting will make or break your story. Much like it breaks this one.

I spent a while scouring the comic trying to figure out if there was something that I was missing that made this comic "funny" because of their Egyptian-ness... but there isn't anything there. Perhaps the creator was just hoping that someone would think, "Ha ha ha, a chariot. What hilarity!"

That person is not me. I, in fact, think that this joke would not be funny no matter the setting, but the fact that it's Egyptians makes it EXTRA UNFUNNY.

What's fair's fair, so come make fun of me and my comic at The Underfold!

See you tomorrow.

Big Top is in reruns, and out-of-sync reruns at that. That's why the holidays don't sync up. That and don't-give-a-shit-syndicate-editors.

Rob Harris stopped doing Big Top several years ago. He's now the artist on Adam @ Home.

That still leaves one comic with a costume party joke... and it's still confusing.

Do people really have costume parties at other times of the day?

Since when did the Academia Waltz still exist? I thought that was Berke Breathed's old strip that he did for his college newspaper.

You know, before he was actually good at the whole being funny thing.

Thanks for featuring my comic, 2 Cows and a Chicken! Yes, the fact that the word "Socialism" is anoverused "buzz word" is kind of the point I was trying to make. It goes on to explore the world of Darwinism vs. Socialism in the strips to follow this week.

Steve,

You're welcome. I generally tend to like 2 Cows and a Chicken!

Noah,

I'm not sure about history or anything because I do absolutely zero research about this stuff... but... it's there.
